Ein ungew\u00f6hnliches Semester geht zu Ende, das die Universit\u00e4ten nicht nur vor gro\u00dfe organisatorische Herausforderungen stellte, sondern auch wissenschaftliche Forschung in ein neues Licht r\u00fcckte. Die Expertise von Wissenschaftler*innen war in den vergangenen Monaten gefragt und gleichzeitig diskutiert wie nie. Zu den Fragestellungen, die Handlungsanweisungen f\u00fcr die Arbeit in Laboren und Krankenh\u00e4usern zu entwickeln suchten, gesellten sich schnell auch solche, die sich mit den individuellen Herausforderungen derer besch\u00e4ftigten, die das Virus vielleicht nicht pers\u00f6nlich in ihrer gesundheitlichen Verfassung, aber dennoch mit seinen gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen betraf. In unseren Kurzinterviews mit den Mitgliedern des Leitungsteams von RaT haben wir die Dimensionen der bisher mit dem Corona-Virus vergangenen Zeit au\u00dferhalb des medizinischen Bereiches zum Thema gemacht: Welche politischen, soziologischen und religionswissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen ergaben sich in den letzten Wochen? Welche pers\u00f6nlichen Eindr\u00fccke wurden gesammelt? Welche Lehren k\u00f6nnen aus der Corona-Zeit gezogen werden? Prof. Sieglinde Rosenberger, Institut f\u00fcr Politikwissenschaft:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWelche Fragen besch\u00e4ftigen Sie nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Wochen?<\/strong><\/p>\nWie kann es zuk\u00fcnftig (wieder) gelingen, gesellschaftlich und politisch im Sinne der Vielen und \u00fcber nationale Grenzen hinweg zu handeln? Diese Frage ist virulent in und nach einer Zeit, in der das Sein im \u00f6ffentlichen Raum zur\u00fcck gedr\u00e4ngt wurde\/wird, Zusammenk\u00fcnfte nur unter erschwerten Bedingungen stattfinden k\u00f6nnen, berufliche Aktivit\u00e4ten verst\u00e4rkt in die \u201eeigenen vier W\u00e4nde“ verlagert wurden\/werden. Was bedeuten diese Ma\u00dfnahmen f\u00fcr den Zusammenhalt von Gesellschaften, wie verst\u00e4ndigen wir uns \u00fcber das Leben in Gesellschaften und nicht nur \u00fcber Gemeinschaften?<\/p>\n
Welches Potential f\u00fcr gesellschaftliche und religi\u00f6se Transformationen sehen Sie in der aktuellen Situation?<\/strong><\/p>\nPotential f\u00fcr Ver\u00e4nderungen gibt es genug. Die derzeitige Situation stellt einiges von den Beinen auf den Kopf: Wir erfahren, dass es die funktionierenden Staaten sind, die die Unternehmen durch die Krise tragen. Wir erfahren, dass staatlich gef\u00fchrte Gesundheitseinrichtungen besser Krisen bew\u00e4ltigen als privat gef\u00fchrte. Wir erfahren den immensen Wert von Kinderbetreuung und Schule. Kurzum, das Wissen um die politische Machbarkeit hat ein \u201eGelegenheitsfenster“ bekommen. Die Frage ist, wie rasch und vor allem wer die Gelegenheiten f\u00fcr welche Interessen nutzt? Engagement und Artikulation ist vermutlich derzeit notwendiger denn je.<\/p>\n
Was erhoffen Sie sich f\u00fcr die Sommerpause und das neue Semester?<\/strong><\/p>\nDen R\u00fcckgewinn der \u00f6ffentlichen R\u00e4ume \u2013 allerdings unbedingt unter Einhaltung der viel zitierten Sicherheitsma\u00dfnahmen.<\/p>\n
Prof. Kurt Appel, RaT\/Institut f\u00fcr Systematische Theologie und Ethik:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nWelche Fragen besch\u00e4ftigen Sie nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Wochen? <\/strong><\/p>\nIch habe in Italien mehrere Artikel in Zeitungen geschrieben, die auf breite Resonanz gesto\u00dfen sind. Die Frage ging in die Richtung, wie unsere Gesellschaft mit der Covid-Krise umgeht und welche Aporien sich dabei zeigen. Dabei waren Stichworte zum Beispiel die Suche nach absoluter Sicherheit, die Verdr\u00e4ngung von Sterblichkeit, die massive Benachteiligung der jungen Generationen. Religionsphilosophisch besch\u00e4ftigt mich die Frage nach dem Gebet in Zeiten der Krise und dessen Transformation.<\/p>\n
Welches Potential f\u00fcr gesellschaftliche und religi\u00f6se Transformationen sehen Sie in der aktuellen Situation?<\/strong><\/p>\nEs geht meiner Meinung nach ganz massiv darum, von einem absoluten Sicherheitsdenken im Sinne menschlicher Allmachtsphantasien Abstand zu nehmen. Das Menschliche ist immer mit Unverf\u00fcgbarkeit verbunden und es bedarf einer neuen Kultur, diese Unverf\u00fcgbarkeit und Offenheit zu leben. Das bedeutet nat\u00fcrlich nicht, menschliches Leben mutwillig aufs Spiel zu setzen und technische und wissenschaftliche Errungenschaften zu diskreditieren.<\/p>\n
Notwendig ist meines Erachtens ein kritischer Blick auf eine Expert*innenkultur, die alles der Machbarkeit unterstellt und ein kritischer Blick auf eine Politik, die menschliche Verantwortung durch Autoritarismus ersetzt. Positiv ist, dass wieder die Notwendigkeit eines funktionierenden Staates in den Blick kommt. Die Religion m\u00fcsste wieder viel st\u00e4rker die Offenheit und Unverf\u00fcgbarkeit menschlicher Existenz als Ausgang allen Sinnes thematisieren. Weiters ginge es darum, zu thematisieren, dass der Mensch die Herausforderung und die Verantwortung eines sinnerf\u00fcllten Lebens nicht in eine unbestimmte Zukunft auslagern darf.<\/p>\n
Welche Fragen besch\u00e4ftigen Sie nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Wochen? <\/strong><\/p>\nIch erhoffe mir eine physische Begegnung mit den Studierenden. Die virtuelle Welt darf die k\u00f6rperliche Begegnung des Anderen nicht ersetzen.<\/p>\n
Prof. Gerhard Langer, Institut f\u00fcr Judaistik:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWelche Fragen besch\u00e4ftigen Sie nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Wochen? <\/strong>
Offengestanden habe ich mich in der Zeit einerseits mit lange liegen gebliebenen Aufgaben besch\u00e4ftigt, ein Buch zu j\u00fcdischer Bibelauslegung in Bezug auf Frauen im Mittelalter ediert und an meinem Buch \u201eJudentum f\u00fcr Dummies“ gearbeitet, sowie einige kleinere Artikel geschrieben. Die privilegierte Situation des Hochschullehrers und Forschers, der zu Hause am Schreibtisch arbeiten kann und den Vorteil der Ruhe und der Ungest\u00f6rtheit genie\u00dfen kann, ist mir wieder sehr bewusst geworden \u2013 ebenso wie das Bed\u00fcrfnis nach dieser Ruhe, nach dem ungest\u00f6rt Forschen k\u00f6nnen. Das Reisen, das ich sonst sehr viel praktiziere, ist mir nur sehr beschr\u00e4nkt abgegangen. Daf\u00fcr wurde \u2013 \u00f6kologisch weniger gut \u2013 das Auto st\u00e4rker genutzt als sonst, allerdings auch in sehr beschr\u00e4nktem Rahmen. Ein Fahrrad wird definitiv wiederbelebt werden.<\/p>\nWelches Potential f\u00fcr gesellschaftliche und religi\u00f6se Transformationen
sehen Sie in der aktuellen Situation?<\/strong><\/p>\nIch denke, dass wir alle mehr und mehr auf ein online-Lernen und -Lehren zusteuern. Au\u00dferdem habe ich festgestellt, dass viel mehr Menschen ihre Angelegenheiten und Eink\u00e4ufe online erledigen. Der Konsum geht auch zur\u00fcck. Die Gastronomie leidet. Wir stehen hier vor einem Umbruch in ein Zeitalter, wo \u2013 zumindest in einigen Branchen und Bereichen \u2013 vom Schreibtisch aus viel erledigt wird. Umso wichtiger und sichtbarer sind aber die Menschen im Medizinbereich, in der Pflege, der Versorgung, und der Infrastruktur geworden. Ich arbeite ja schon lange gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils zu Hause und genie\u00dfe das, aber f\u00fcr viele ist es eine Umstellung und ob fehlender Ressourcen auch nicht immer leicht. Hier wird definitiv die Schere zwischen arm und besser gestellt, zwischen gut gebildet und gut aufgestellt und eher schlecht gebildet und wenig auf Online-Lernen vorbereitet sichtbar, gerade auch bei Sch\u00fcler*innen.<\/p>\n
Was erhoffen Sie sich f\u00fcr die Sommerpause und das neue Semester?
<\/strong>Die Sommerpause sollte Zeit bringen f\u00fcr den n\u00e4chsten Krimi, f\u00fcr den ich auch einiges recherchieren muss. Das neue Semester? Mal sehen, ob es weiter eher online- oder wieder face-to-face-Begegnungen geben wird. Im Bereich Pr\u00fcfungen und auch in Vorlesungen klassischen Stils habe ich diese Form lieber. Seminare waren auch online annehmbar.<\/p>\nProf. Lukas Pokorny, Institut f\u00fcr Religionswissenschaft:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWelche Fragen besch\u00e4ftigen Sie nach den Erfahrungen der letzten Wochen?<\/strong>
Insbesondere verbl\u00fcffte mich die Aktualit\u00e4t und Vielgestaltigkeit verschw\u00f6rungstheoretischer Elemente in den Millenarismusvorstellungen alternativer\/neuer religi\u00f6ser Gemeinschaften. Damit zusammenh\u00e4ngend war es gleicherma\u00dfen faszinierend, in welchen Formen so manche Gemeinschaften Covid-19 unter ritualpraktischen Gesichtspunkten begegneten. Eine zeitnahe systematische Erforschung ist jedenfalls geboten.<\/p>\nWelches Potential f\u00fcr gesellschaftliche und religi\u00f6se Transformationen

Ich denke, dass die aktuelle Situation mit ihren weitreichenden \u00f6konomischen und sozialpsychologischen Folgen die Schaffung und Popularisierung millenaristischer Vorstellungswelten enorm beg\u00fcnstigt.
Was erhoffen Sie sich f\u00fcr die Sommerpause und das neue Semester?<\/strong>
Die Umsetzung so mancher Forschungsideen.<\/p>\n
\nCovid-19, the public-less space and science. An outlook on summer. <\/em><\/p>\nAn unconventional semester is slowly ending. Not only have universities around the world been faced with enormous organizational challenges, but also scientific research itself received unforeseen attention. The expertise of scientists was both highly demanded and controversially discussed. Questions that were raised to guide work in laboratories and hospitals were soon complemented by questions that sought to highlight individual challenges and burdens that those faced who were not medically affected by the virus, but were affected by the social implications the pandemic entailed. We spoke to the RaT leadership team to find out about the dimensions of Covid-19 outside of the medical sphere: Which questions did arise from the standpoints of political, sociological and religious studies? Which personal impressions did the team members gather? What can we learn from the weeks and months with Covid accompanying us in our daily lives? Prof. Sieglinde Rosenberger, Institute for Political Science:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWhat questions did you come across over the last few weeks? <\/strong><\/p>\nHow can we successfully manage to socially and politically act in accordance with the needs and wishes of the large majority and across national borders? This question is particularly virulent in and after a time in which the individual\u2019s presence and mobility in the public space was drastically restricted, in which meetings and gatherings took place under difficult conditions, in which professional activities were increasingly shifted to our own four walls. What do these measures mean for societal cohesion, how do we communicate about life in societies and not only in communities?<\/p>\n
What potential do you see for social and religious transformations in the current situation? <\/strong><\/p>\nThere is enough potential for transformation. The current situation turns a lot of things upside down: We learn that it is the well-functioning states that carry companies through crisis. We learn that state-run health care institutions are better in coping with crises than private ones. We learn how extremely valuable childcare and schools are. In short, knowledge of political feasibility got a window of opportunity. The question that remains is how quickly and, most importantly, who will seize the opportunity and for what interests? Engagement and communication are most likely more necessary now than ever.<\/p>\n
What are your hopes for the summer break and new semester?<\/strong><\/p>\nTo regain the public space \u2013 however, in strict compliance with the frequently quoted safety measures.<\/p>\n
Prof. Kurt Appel, RaT\/Institute for Systematic Theology and Ethics<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\nWhat questions did you come across over the last few weeks? <\/strong><\/p>\nI wrote several articles for Italian newspapers that found broad resonance. The questions asked about how our society deals with the Covid-19 crisis and which impasses became visible during this time. Key questions in this context were, among others, the search for full security, the displacement and suppression of mortality, and massive discrimination of the younger generations. With regard to the philosophy of religion, I mostly thought about the question of prayer during times of crises and its transformation.<\/p>\n
What potential do you see for social and religious transformations in the current situation? <\/strong><\/p>\nIn my opinion, we have to move away from an absolute safety culture in the sense of the \u2018human fantasy of omnipotence\u2019. The humane is always related to unavailability and there is a need for a new culture that allows for living this unavailability and openness. This of course does not mean that the lives of humans should deliberately be jeopardized, and that technological and scientific achievements should be discredited. I believe that expert culture that subordinates everything to the paradigm of feasibility has to be critically questioned. I believe that policies that replace human responsibility with authoritarianism should be critically questioned. What I see as highly positive is the fact that the need for a well-functioning state has gained new attention. Religion should much more focus on the openness and unavailability of human existence. Furthermore, the necessity that the individual should not shift challenges and responsibilities of a meaningful life to an undetermined future has to be brought to attention.<\/p>\n
What are your hopes for the summer break and new semester?<\/strong><\/p>\nI hope to meet my students in face-to-face settings once again. The virtual world must not be a substitution for physical meetings with the other.<\/p>\n
Prof. Gerhard Langer, Institute for Jewish Studies:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWhat questions did you come across over the last few weeks? <\/strong><\/p>\nAdmittedly, I worked on some tasks that had been pushed aside for a long time. I edited a book on Jewish Bible interpretations in relation to women in the Middle Ages and continued to work on my book \u201cJewish Studies for Dummies\u201d and some shorter articles. I very much became conscious of the fact that I am in the highly privileged position of a professor and researcher who can work at his desk at home, and who can enjoy the benefits of the quiet times and of not being interrupted. I furthermore realized how much I appreciated this quietness and the opportunity to carry out research without interruption. I hardly missed the traveling that usually takes up a considerable amount of time. Despite its ecological drawbacks, I relied more on using the car but am very sure that a bike will soon be revived as well.<\/p>\n
What potential do you see for social and religious transformations in the current situation? <\/strong><\/p>\nI think that we will much more focus on both online learning and teaching in the future. I furthermore became aware of the fact that many already heavily rely on doing their errands and shopping in the online world. Consumption sees some decline, restaurants and caf\u00e9s suffer. We do find ourselves at the beginning of a new era in which \u2013 at least in certain areas of life and work \u2013 much more tasks will be carried out from the desk at home. Contrastingly, health care in hospitals, care of the elderly and children, and those who help to keep the infrastructure running have become even more important. Personally, I have been working largely from home for a long time and enjoy it, but for many this entails quite a bit of change and a lack of resources makes it even more difficult to adapt to these changes. The divide between the poor and the wealthy, the well-educated and well-equipped and poorly educated and less equipped for online learning becomes visible, especially among students and pupils.<\/p>\n
What are your hopes for the summer break and new semester?<\/strong><\/p>\nI hope to have enough time for the next crime novel and the research for it. The new semester? We will see if the virtual meetings will once again replace the face-to-face meetings or if the latter will be revived. While I prefer exams and lectures in the traditional setting, seminars were also acceptable online.<\/p>\n
Prof. Lukas Pokorny, Institute for Religious Studies:<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\nWhat questions did you come across over the last few weeks? <\/strong><\/p>\nI was especially surprised by the topicality and broad variety of the elements of conspiracist theories in the imaginations of millenarianism of alternative and newer religious communities. What is related to that are the unconventional ways and forms of how some communities approached Covid-19 from perspectives of practical ritual that truly fascinated me. Systematic research of such phenomena will be needed.<\/p>\n
What potential do you see for social and religious transformations in the current situation? <\/strong><\/p>\nI think that the current situation with its far-reaching economic and socio-psychological effects will greatly and positively influence the formation and popularization of millenarianistic worlds of imaginations.<\/p>\n
What are your hopes for the summer break and new semester?<\/strong><\/p>\nTo be able to realize some new research ideas.<\/p>\n
